EDP Renewables commissions its first photovoltaic power plant in Romania

The strategic plan announced by the company in May is running two years ahead of schedule. EDPR’s solar power projects in Romania are progressing at an excellent rate and the company expects its first four solar power plants to be operational in the coming weeks.

Madrid, 19th December 2012: EDP Renewables (EDP Renováveis, Euronext: EDPR), the third global leader in the renewable energy sector, reports today on the progress of its solar power projects in Romania.

As part of the company’s strategic plan and its bet on solar power in certain markets, in September 2012 EDP Renewables began construction of four photovoltaic power plants in the regions of Mehendinti, Olt and Dolj, in Southeast Romania. The four power plants have a combined capacity of 39 MW and were scheduled to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2013.

EDP Renewables has achieved this goal and is in fact running ahead of schedule; one of these plants was commissioned yesterday and the other three are set to be fully operational within the coming weeks.
