EDP Renováveis awards scholarships in Cantabria, Castilla la Mancha and Andalucía totaling more than 20,000 euros

These scholarships are part of the Green Education Project to promote the education of children from low-income families from preschool to university.

The 2012 edition of Green Education, which also takes place in Portugal, was the second edition sponsored by EDP Renováveis.

Madrid, 22 November 2012: EDP Renováveis (Euronext: EDPR), a world leader in renewable energies and the third largest producer of wind power in the world, today awarded its scholarships as part of the Green Education program. The goal of this initiative is to offer economic aid to Spanish students and their families in the autonomous communities where EDP Renováveis has established facilities. This time, 27 scholarships were handed out, and 33 families had their schoolbooks paid for in a total amount of 20,565 euros.

The selected municipalities included Valderedible City Council in Cantabria, La Roda City Council in Albacete and Tarifa and Medina Sidonia city councils in Cádiz.

As such, 15 students from the obligatory secondary schooling system and one university student received the Green Education scholarships in Tarifa.

In the municipality of Medina Sidonia, the scholarships were granted to educational institutions to purchase books, thereby helping 33 families. The Santiago El Mayor, Doctor Thebussem, Ángel Ruiz Enciso and Nuestra Señora de la Paz schools will also benefit.

Finally, the municipality of La Roda (province of Albacete) received 8 scholarships, while 3 students from the municipality of Valderedible (Cantabria) received their scholarships.

Green Education is a program sponsored by EDP Renováveis, providing economic assistance to needy students and families. Beneficiaries are chosen from the Spanish regions where the company operates. The scholarships are granted in accordance with the families’ per capita income and the students’ academic qualifications.

This year saw the second edition of Green Education in Spain, and was widely welcomed by the city councils involved. The scholarships will be awarded progressively in the various communities, and the mayor of each city will be involved.

João Paulo Costeira, EDP Renováveis Europe CEO, said: “This initiative confirms EDP Renováveis’ commitment to society. This is our second edition in Spain, and we hope there will be many more. Investing in our youth means investing in the future of all of us.”
