EDP Renewables successfully brings its ¡TU ENERGÍA! educational programme to almost 4,000 schoolchildren in Catalonia. The EDPR programme has held 49 educational sessions at schools across Catalonia since March. The goal of the programme is to raise awareness among schoolchildren about the need to adopt basic habits, attitudes and behaviours that respect the environment, both at school and at home.

Madrid, 23rd June 2017: EDP Renewables (EDP Renewables, Euronext: EDPR), a global leader in the renewable energy sector and one of the world’s largest wind energy producers, has rolled out its ¡TU ENERGÍA! (Your Energy) educational programme in Catalonia, which has proved very popular. The sessions, which took place between March and June, were held at 59 schools in the provinces of Barcelona and Tarragona.

¡TU ENERGÍA! was developed to educate children on the importance and benefits of renewable energy for the environment. This programme has allowed EDPR to convey this important message to 3,980 primary school children within the region.

The sessions consisted of walking the children through the world of renewable energies using child-friendly characters representing solar, hydraulic, wind, geothermal and biomass energies, so that they can learn about their different features in an attractive, friendly way and on a level they can understand. The activities, which are accompanied by videos and interactive presentations, help raise the children’s awareness of the importance of responsible energy use and the benefits of using renewable energies.

The initiative has also been very well received by teachers, who have underscored the importance of these types of programmes and the fact that learning about these issues in school is the most effective way of supporting the message of sustainable development. Children are able to learn about the benefits of renewable energy in an understandable way, ensuring a more sustainable future. Many schools participating in this edition of the programme have also shown interest in renewing their involvement in future years, in view of the very successful results.

João Paulo Costeria, CEO of EDP Renewables Europe, said: “This project allows us to continue working towards raising awareness among children, who on many occasions are those that convey the message of care and respect for the environment at home. “It is vital they feel they are taking part in a mission that involves us all and that they become familiar with renewable energy and the importance of responsible energy consumption, emphasising the benefits of sustainable development”.
