Second place was awarded to students from the Poznan University of Technology, while third prize went to students from the Warsaw University of Technology.



The event was hosted by José Juan Canales, Country Manager of EDP Renewables in Poland and Romania.



Warsaw, 11 October 2017. EDP Renewables (Euronext: EDPR), a global leader in the renewable energy sector and one of the world's largest wind energy producers has announced the winner of the EDPR University Challenge 2017 for students from Polish universities. The awards ceremony was hosted by José Juan Canales, Country Manager of EDP Renewables in Poland and Romania.



The five shortlisted groups presented their projects to the audience and judging panel, which comprised of: ?ukasz Zagórski – Deputy Managing Director of EDPR Poland, Robert Adamczewski – Head of the Project Development Department at EDPR Poland, Telmo Vieira – Partner at PremiValor Consulting, and Agnieszka Przesmycka from the Ministry of Energy.



The winning project entitled Electric Wave – Breakwaters producing electricity was presented by students from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, supervised by their professor Krzysztof Nalepa.



The projects awarded second and third place, respectively, were: Interactive Platform to Optimize Electrical Energy Storage, presented by students from the Poznan University of Technology and Eco Train – The Train of the Future presented by students from the Warsaw University of Technology.







The winning team was awarded a prize of 15 000 zloty. The professor who supervised the winning entry was also awarded 5 000 zloty. The group awarded second place was awarded 10 000 zloty to be distributed among its members, and

2 500 for the project coordinator. And the group in third place was awarded 5 000 for group.



The second edition of the EDPR University Challenge has been particularly successfully, attracting 55 entries from universities. EDPR has been running the competition since 2016 in Poland and the number of entries and their quality gets higher every year. José Juan Canales, Country Manager of EDP Renewables in Poland and Romania said: "we are always looking to the future and supporting initiatives like this one is the best way to contribute towards the development of the sector and the society of tomorrow".
