Houston Children are Ready for School Thanks to EDPR NA Employees
Houston Children’s Charity is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for underprivileged children in the Greater Houston, Texas, area.
Each year, the Houston Children’s Charity organizes the “Back 2 School Program” which provides children with new backpacks and necessary school supplies for the upcoming school year.
The volunteer efforts from EDP Renewables NA (EDPR NA) employees ensured that the 2013 “Back 2 School Program” was a great success! In total, employee volunteers donated 40 backpacks stocked with enough notebook paper, binders, pencils, pens, markers, crayons, and other supplies to make certain that each child receiving a backpack would be well-equipped throughout the school year.
Eastern Region Executive Assistant, Maria Rodriguez, took the lead on shopping for school supplies and put her extreme couponing skills to work.
“Using coupons and a well-planned shopping strategy allows me to get the most value for my dollar and donate supplies to as many children as possible,” Rodriguez said.
With Maria’s couponing skills, the amount of supplies EDPR NA employees were able to donate was maximized and magnified.
Fifteen employees volunteered their time, and many employees donated supplies to the organization.
