The great bustard (Otis tarda) is a distinctive bird due its large size that lives in steppe areas.

It is precisely the alteration of steppe habitats where great bustards live that represents their greatest threat, not to mention collision with overhead power cables.

During 2012 and 2013 EDPR had financed a study of the great bustard in the central-western part of Albacete, a province that has over 300 MW in operation.

The study consisted of two phases: the first phase involved extensive office work to analyze the available literature; the second phase involved fieldwork to conduct a population count. Once the study was over, the conclusions that were arrived to showed how the great bustard population in the area appears to be stable, therefore providing confirmation that it is a very important territory for the species both regionally and nationally.
