Global Wind Day, the Brazilian edition

This is an annual event where children that live in the locations close to a EDP Renováveis plant, take part in activities related to the theme of the event and visit the wind farm that hosts the event.

The Brazilian edition was held for elementary school children of the community of Aroeira, located in the city of Jandaíra, state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the Northeastern region of Brazil.

Two schools of this community attended this event, and they took part in theatrical presentations, educational games, music workshops, kites and pinwheel workshops, exhibition of "Wind Continent" corporate video, and went on a guided tour to Baixa do Feijão Wind Complex.

The monitors that took care of the children were also from same community and were dress in colorful and bright clothes during their presentations, while they sang songs and told local stories. In the workshops, the kids learned how to make kites and pinwheels, they received instructions on how to play with them safely, and they were also able to take home the toys that they made with help of the monitors. The board game, specially developed for this event, was a quiz about the wind resource, the operation of a wind turbine, air mass flows, among other things. In this game, played by five participants, a child who answers the questions well, wins.

300 children participated in all these activities offered by EDP Renováveis Brasil. They were separated in two shifts and were accompanied by their teachers.

An important item in the organization of the Brazilian edition of the Global Wind Day is that some of the ingredients of the snacks served to the children were purchased directly from producers assisted by the Social Program EDP Renováveis Rural. This first phase of the Program was taking place on properties in the cities of Jandaíra and Parazinho.

The "dindins" (units of frozen juices served in small plastic bags) were made with coconut, milk and Barbados cherry from the local producers; as well as the passion fruit and guava of the natural juices served, and also the carrots in the chicken paté that filled the bread.

The organization and execution of this event was the responsibility of the Environment team of EDP Renováveis, the head of the Baixa do Feijão Wind Complex, EDP Institute, and a contracted company.
