EDP Renewables awards top prize in 3rd edition of Wind Experts contest.

The winning project, from the Ildefonso Navarro School in Villamalea, consisted of a wind turbine made out of recycled materials. The jury chose the winner out of close to 100 entries from schools across Spain.

Madrid, 6 June 2018: EDP Renewables (EDP Renewables, Euronext: EDPR), a global leader in the renewable energy sector and one of the world's largest wind energy producers, has awarded the first prize in the third edition of its Wind Experts contest to a group of sixth graders from the Ildefonso Navarro School in Villamalea (Albacete).

The award ceremony, held at the winning group's school, was attended by EDPR's Head of Business in Castilla La Mancha, Juan Fernando Sánchez Inesta. In addition to a commemorative trophy, the children were given a diploma and will have the opportunity to visit an EDPR wind farm located in the province.

The children, aged 10-13, were helped by a teacher at the school to design the wind turbines. The jury sifted through videos and pictures of the children developing their prototypes to select the winning entry.

The results of this third edition are a clear reflection of just how popular this initiative has become. Close to 100 children from 25 primary schools across Spain took part in this year's edition, an increase of 26% versus the previous edition.

João Manso Neto, CEO of EDP Renewables, said: “These types of initiatives help make future generations aware of renewable energy and the importance of responsible energy consumption, as well as underscoring the benefits of sustainable development”.
