Closer2You recognised as a top CSR initiative

Wednesday 25, March 2020

Aimed at improving local economies close to the energy firm's plants in different countries, the campaign has been given an award at the “Corporate Social Responsibility Week”.

Rafael Solís, Director of Corporate Communications and Stakeholder Management, will also be speaking on the importance of responsible communication.

Madrid, 25 March 2020:EDP Renewables (Euronext: EDPR), global leader in renewable energies and one of the largest wind power producers in the world, has won an award at theFirst Global Corporate Social Responsibility Week”, an joint initiative by the association Más Responsables and the company Ingeniería Social, who will be running a fully online meeting on CSR from 24 to 27 March, including panel discussions and training pods.

Specifically, the EDPR’s Closer2You initiative has been selected from the 28 companies taking part. The scheme run by the energy company seeks to help improve standards of living for its stakeholders, and mainly for those living in poverty close to their installations. The scheme started in 2016, in Romania, at the Chernavoda wind farm, helping a nearby family to gain access a continuous power supply for the winter, drinking water and even repairs to the outside and roof of their home. This action has since been mirrored in other countries.

Corporate Social Responsibility Week has been held for 10 consecutive years in Barcelona, becoming a major convention and meeting point for the sector. In the light of the current situation, this year’s event is a little different from previous years, and will be held 100% online, thus becoming the first ever fully digital CSR event, both for speakers and attendees. This will make it even easier to take part, as well as being more flexible and sustainable; it will allow the event to go fully global and to attract participants from all over the world.

The topics for this year's edition are the Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030), the Climate Emergency and Teleworking. The event will also cover matters such as equality, innovation in CSR, and responsible communication, among others. Rafael Solís, Director of Corporate Communications and Stakeholder Management, will be sitting on one of the panels to discuss the importance of responsible communication within businesses, where he will share his views with other experts on the subject.

Rafael Solís stated: “At EDPR, Corporate Social Responsibility is an essential part of our business model. Closer2You is proof of this; a social scheme created to address the actual needs of the local community near our plant in Chernavoda (Romania), and which today has become an international social initiative”.
