Madrid, 23 April 2020: EDP Renewables (Euronext: EDPR), a global leader in the renewable energy sector and one of the world’s largest wind energy producers with operations in 14 countries, is to donate 315 new laptops and 60 new tablets in 35 Spanish towns to help meet the needs of disadvantaged young people and support them in continuing their education. The aid will be distributed in communities located in Andalusia, Aragón, Asturias, Castilla La Mancha, Castilla y León, Galicia and Navarre.

The donation is part of the €750,000 aid programme rolled out by EDPR to help tackle Covid-19, announced earlier this month. Projects are being funded in local communities in most of the markets where EDPR operates, to help cushion the impact of coronavirus.

In Spain, which is home to EDPR’s corporate and operating headquarters and where the company has installed capacity of over 2,000 MW, the aid has been used to buy toiletries and provide digital equipment to support remote learning, as well as funding early payments for local suppliers.

EDPR is also rolling out aid programmes in another eleven countries (Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, the US, France, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Poland and Romania), including a range of initiatives such as donations to food banks, buying toiletries, medical equipment and rapid tests, and providing educational materials to facilitate remote learning.

The 750,000 euros donated by EDP Renewables to help fight Covid-19 is in addition to the more than 5 million euros contributed to the cause by the EDP Group globally.
