EDPR donates R$ 450k to Rio Grande do Norte in the fight against Covid-19

These resources were earmarked to purchase additional protective gear to fight the pandemic. These are intended for the public health system and local communities present in the immediate surroundings of where the company has operations. 

São Paulo, May 18th 2020: EDP Renewables (Euronext: EDPR), global leader in the renewable energy sector, present in over 14 countries and one of the world’s largest wind energy producers, has donated R$ 450k to help fight the effects of the New Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The funds are destined to the counties of Lajes, Touros, Cerro Corá and São Tomé, located in the Rio Grande do Norte state area. 

The company destined R$ 300k for the purchase of safety gear and higene products in order to help these communities in the struggle against Covid-19, equipment that is earmarked for the public health system in counties located in the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina and a further R$ 100k for medical equipments destined for the Santa Casa de Misericórdia hospital, located in the county of Pereira Barreto, upstate São Paulo.

“ Social causes is large part of our company’s DNA, and we could no longer just look back at such a delicate moment as the times we live in. To help ward off the new coronavirus in the communities encircling our wind farms, we destined this sum to purchase protective gear, higene products and medical equipment”, states Filipe Domingues, EDP Renewables Brazil’s vice-president. “Upon talking to local public bodies, we analysed beforehand the necessities they would face in order to really make a difference in the aid we provide to ward off this pandemic” he summed up.

EDP Renewables’ iniciative in Brazil is part of an action plan carried out in all countries that have the company’s presence. The aid encompasses ten countries (Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Romania, Spain and the US) harboring to each country’s specific needs. The efforts vary from food donation, purchasing healthcare items, medical equipments, rapid tests and purchasing digital school gear to aid learning at a distance. A study was carried out beforehand to assess the needs of each specific market and therefore aid in the most effective manner possible.
