On December 10, 2014, Lone Star Wind Farm held its first annual Safety Day.

Lone Star Site Safety Coordinator Zach Thompson coordinated the event that included EDPR employees as well as employees from Lone Star's service provider, UpWind. The technicians rotated through several activities including a live fire drill, where each person used an extinguisher to put out a fire, and a hands-on scenario where each maintenance crew rigged a teammate for a turbine evacuation with descent devices.

In addition, the site arranged for a local Life Flight team to give a course on how to properly prepare Helicopter Landing Zones (HLZs) and package an injured person in case of an on-site emergency where Air Evacuation is needed.

"The technicians really enjoyed the presentation from the Life Flight team and were able to familiarize themselves with the helicopter and with how to prepare a designated landing zone," said Tony Velasquez, UpWind Environmental, Health & Safety Leader. "It was a good experience and a great way for both UpWind and EDPR to get involved!".

Thompson also thought the Safety Day proved to be very worthwhile.

"We are really looking forward to building on this experience in the coming years and continuing to involve our service providers and local emergency responders," said Thompson.
