Penang, June 26, 2023 – EDP Renewables (EDPR) has completed the design, construction and installation of a 1.9MWp rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system through a joint venture with Reservoir Link. The PV system is located on the rooftop of Design Village Outlet Mall in Penang, Malaysia, for PE Land (Penang) Sdn Bhd.

The system is installed for self-consumption via a signed 15-year Power Purchase Agreement. It is structured with 3,584 solar panels and will generate 2,868,000kWh of energy annually. This is equivalent to offsetting approximately 1,833 metric tons of carbon emissions*.

A ceremony was held to commemorate the commercialisation of the project and was attended by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Alvin Wong, Country Director of Malaysia said, “The current global context has made the energy transition ever more crucial. We hope the installation of this project will pave the way for further solar deployment in Malaysia, to decarbonise our energy-centric economy towards a cleaner and greener future.”

This project is part of EDPR’s renewables portfolio in Malaysia, which currently has 7MWp installed capacity and 1.4MWp capacity of projects under construction. The company is closely monitoring evolution, strengthening local partnerships and actively assessing opportunities to support Malaysia’s Renewable Energy Roadmap goals – namely increasing renewables capacity in its energy mix from 25% today to 40% by 2035 and going net zero
by 2050.
