Madrid, 13th December 2018: EDP Renewables S.A. (“EDPR”), leader in the renewable energy sector and one of the largest wind energy producers in the world, has been recognised by Romania’s Energynomics for its Stocare Project at the Cobadin Wind Farm in the region of Constanza, which has scooped the “2018 Year Premier” prize.



Stocare Project is battery-based energy storage system connected to one of EDPR’s wind farms. When there is excess production, the system will charge the batteries, and when production is lower than expected, the energy stored in the batteries will be provided to consumers. This type of energy storage facility could provide a breakthrough in the energy market over the coming years by turning renewable energies such as wind and photovoltaic solar power into consistently available energy sources, as well as making them more efficient and reliable.



Energynomics Award recognises excellence across a number of energy-related fields: electricity, renewable energy, energy efficiency, smart energy, mergers and acquisitions.

EDPR’s work at its Stocare Project has been highlighted by the Energynomics judging panel, which is made up of renowned professionals working in the energy sector: Radu B?di??, General Secretary of ANRE (Romania’s electricity regulator), Elena Popescu; Director General at the Ministry of Energy; Vasile Iuga, an independent expert; Valeriu Binig, a partner at EY Romania; Ionu? Purica, Founder of the Romanian Academy; Alexandru Patruti, who sits on the Romanian National Committee of the World Energy Council; and Sorin Elisei from Deloitte Romania.
